Many, if not most window cleaners like Windex are ammonia based products which should be avoided at all costs! And speaking of costs these cleaners are expensive when you consider what you are getting for your money. I just looked up Windex prices online. One of the lower prices was $4.45 for a 32 oz. bottle of poison!
Then there are health and safety issues to consider here. When you use these products you are using a poison known as ammonia, which is very nasty stuff. Have you ever found yourself coughing after you sprayed this stuff in your homes? Well, that’s your body reacting to the ammonia being used in a confined space. That’s not my idea of a good situation at all.
The mirrors, windows, and glass surfaces in your home can be easily and effectively cleaned with a mixture of 4 tablespoons lemon juice mixed into a half gallon of water or so. Others recommend using vinegar using a similar ratio as previously mentioned. Still other effective glass cleaners use rubbing alcohol or witch hazel but these are not a very green solution either.
Whatever method you use should not include the use of newspaper, paper towels, or cotton cloths. All of these will leave behind lint residue. Instead try using micro fiber cloths. These can be picked up for a few bucks at almost any store that sells cleaning products. For about the price of a quart of Windex you can make a gallon of cleaner and buy some cloths that should last a very long time. It will also remove another poison from your home.
